One of the most common questions we hear from Tampa Bay homeowners and contractors is: "Which size dumpster do I actually need?" Pick too small and you're paying for a second haul. Pick too big and you're paying for empty space. Neither is great.
This guide walks through every size we offer, what projects each one fits, and how to know which is right for your specific job in Hillsborough County.
The Quick Answer by Project Type
Not sure where to start? Here's the short version:
- Single room cleanout or small bathroom reno → 10-yard
- Kitchen remodel, flooring replacement, or small estate cleanout → 15-yard
- Full house cleanout, large renovation, or roofing job → 20-yard
- Major construction, commercial teardown, or large estate → 30-yard
When in doubt, go one size up. It's almost always cheaper than paying for a second trip.
All Four Sizes Explained
- Bathroom remodel (tile, fixtures, drywall)
- Single-room renovation debris
- Garage cleanout (light junk)
- Small landscaping project
- Roofing — 1 layer on small home
- Kitchen remodel or multi-room reno
- Flooring replacement (whole house)
- Small to mid estate cleanout
- Deck or fence removal
- Moderate yard debris haul
- Full house cleanout or estate cleanout
- Large home renovation
- Roofing on a larger home
- Tenant turnover (furnished unit)
- Garage + outdoor cleanout combo
- Major home addition or teardown
- Commercial renovation or office cleanout
- New construction debris
- Large multi-room gut job
- Multi-unit property cleanout
Weight Limits Matter — Especially in Tampa Bay
Every dumpster has a weight limit included in the rental price. In most cases, standard dumpster rentals include a set weight allowance — if your load goes over that, there are overage fees per ton.
This is especially important for Tampa Bay homeowners doing roofing jobs, tile removal, or concrete work. Heavy materials fill up a dumpster's weight limit fast, even when it looks half-empty. A 10-yard dumpster can be maxed out by weight while still looking half-empty if you're throwing in shingles or thick tile.
If your project involves roofing shingles, ceramic tile, brick, or other dense materials — tell us when you call. We'll make sure you're in the right size and help you avoid overweight charges. (813) 535-0116.
What We Don't Accept in Any Size
Regardless of dumpster size, these materials are never accepted in our roll-offs:
- Concrete, dirt, asphalt, or gravel (weight and disposal restrictions)
- Hazardous materials — paint, chemicals, motor oil, solvents
- Asbestos-containing materials
- Appliances containing refrigerants (AC units, refrigerators) — call us for options
- Medical waste or biohazardous material
- Tires (in large quantities)
If you're unsure whether an item is accepted, just call before you toss it in. It's always easier to sort out before the dumpster is delivered than after.
Size Guide by Common Tampa Bay Projects
| Project Type | Recommended Size | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Bathroom remodel | 10-yard | Tile, fixtures, drywall — moderate volume, light weight |
| Kitchen gut | 15 or 20-yard | Cabinets, countertops, and appliances add up fast |
| Flooring (whole house) | 15-yard | Hardwood, tile, carpet — bulky but not too heavy |
| Roofing — small home | 10-yard | Shingles are heavy — small containers prevent overweight |
| Roofing — large home | 15 or 20-yard | May need 2 trips or a larger container depending on layers |
| House cleanout / estate | 20-yard | Furniture, appliances, boxes — fills fast on volume |
| Garage cleanout | 10 or 15-yard | Depends on how much your garage holds |
| Full renovation / gut job | 20 or 30-yard | Multiple rooms of demo debris requires serious capacity |
| Commercial or construction | 30-yard | Large volume, recurring swap schedules common |
| Yard cleanup / landscaping | 10 or 15-yard | Light weight but branches and sod take up more space than expected |
Don't Overfill — Here's Why
Every roll-off dumpster has a fill line. For safety and legal reasons during transport, we can't haul a dumpster that's loaded above the top rail. If a dumpster is overfilled when we arrive for pickup, we'll need to either ask you to remove some material before we haul, or charge an overfill fee.
The easiest way to avoid this: go one size up if you're anywhere close to the edge. The price difference between a 15 and 20-yard is often less than the hassle of an overfill situation or a second haul.
